The piece is based upon a system of differing instrument groups, made to play the same sequence of chords within seconds of one another. Rather than making these instruments perfectly synchronised, the system creates differences in timing between each group. These near-misses become part of the music, with the instruments all trying to arrive at the same moment but never quite doing so.
